See all the gear used here at: 🤍 Getting good sounding audio into your DSLR can be achieved a few different ways. One of those ways is to plug a wired lavalier microphone directly into the microphone input on your DSLR. However this doesn't always mean you will get good sounding audio. You still need the right microphone. The AspenMics wired lavalier mics are a great option for going directly into an audio recorder or in this case into your DSLR camera. I'm using the Canon 60D but any camera that has a microphone input and provides microphone level power will work with both the AspenMics mono and stereo wired lav. One of the ways to get useable audio from your DLSR's audio input is to have a microphone that doesn't require you to use too much of the DSLR's preamp. This is a weak point on many DSLR cameras as they often produce noise in your audio when turned up too far. The Aspen mics mono and stereo lav are slightly different in how sensitive they are. The mono version allows you to use less of the camera's preamp but only puts audio onto the left side of your stereo channel. This is easily adjust in post production. The stereo mic. is about 3-4 less sensitive but sends a dual mono signal or what they call "stereo." In this case it's not really a stereo microphone. It simply places the signal on both channels of a stereo signal. Between the two microphones I didn't notice much of a difference in the noise floor once audio was loudness normalized. Because of this, I think you could buy either microphone and be happy with the results but as you can hear in this video, I was able to get more signal out of the mono version and it's always nice to be able to run the preamp lower. *Gear used to make this video: Canon 60D DSLR camera 🤍 AspenMics Mono Lav: 🤍 AspenMics Stereo Lav: 🤍 Microphone extension cable 6' (12' also available): 🤍 Sennheiser ew100 G2 Wireless Lapel Microphone 🤍 Transcend SD card 16 and 32GB Class 10 🤍 Sigma 30mm 1.4 ART (updated version of the 30mm I shot with) B&H: 🤍 Amazon: 🤍 Manfrotto 701 HDV Tripod 🤍 (discontinued) replacement: 🤍 Manfrotto 394 Quick Release Plate and Base 🤍 F&V USA | R-300 5600K LED Ring Light 🤍 *all links should be considered affiliate links. A short sample clip comparing a wired Lavalier mic and QTREE wireless mic for Android/iPhone. Why is the sound machine on? 😂 Someone is sleeping in a different room. This is the unedited version of both audio clips. Wired Lavalier Mic: If I don't talk, I can hear the sound machine if I use a headset or turn up the sound volume. I like the audio quality from this wired mic. QTREE Wireless Mic: Doesn't pick up the sound machine noise but the audio quality seems lower than the wired one. Every now and then you hear "crackling" sound that seriously affects the overall sound quality 😭 It is a budget wireless mic set that is really easy to set up and (almost) easy to use 😭 I was hoping it would work out. The one I ordered does come with 2 mics, so I will test the other one later on. ⭐ References Lavalier microphones: 🤍 ⚠️ The wired mic showed in the video does require a 3.5mm headphone jack. If your phone doesn't have one, you might want to look into wireless mics. The mic shown in the video is no longer available so here is a search page with the keyword "Lavalier microphone" :D The first few listings for me are wireless ones. Mike from TopDaddies.com reviews and demonstrates the Rode SmartLav+ wired lavalier microphone for iPhones and iPads. The smartLav+ is a broadcast-grade wearable microphone designed for use in a wide range of film, television and broadcast scenarios, or wherever broadcast quality audio is required in a discreet, portable format without the complication and expense of additional wireless equipment. With the smartLav+ the user simply mounts the microphone on the talent, connects it to a smartphone or tablet headset jack and records via the RØDE Rec app for iOS, or any other audio app of their choice. By employing a professional quality omni-directional condenser capsule the smartLav+ picks up sound equally from all around the microphone, allowing for versatility when mounting and ensuring a high degree of user-friendly operation. A foam pop shield is supplied to minimise wind noise and vocal plosives (hard ‘b’, ‘t’ and ‘p’ sounds), as well as a durable mounting clip with in-built cable management. Its Kevlar® reinforced cable ensures that you never stretch or snap your microphone under normal usage conditions. The smartLav+ is compatible with any audio app that accepts input from the headset connection, however it has been designed to pair perfectly with RØDE’s RØDE Rec app for Apple iOS devices. RØDE Rec turns the user’s iOS device into a fully-featured field recorder, with a wide range of equalisation presets to suit various recording situations, in addition to professional editing functions and the ability to publish to SoundCloud and Dropbox direct from the app.

How can you drastically improve your audio on Zoom calls or recording videos on your computer? A simple plug and play USB lavalier microphone is the key. See all my recommended gear at kit.co/rayortega. Who is this USB microphone for? For me, this is an option to give to people who are either new to remote conferencing and/or audio production. The Saramonic ULM10 makes it as easy as plugging into your USB port and selecting the ULM10 as your microphone in whatever app you are using and suddenly you have audio that is clean, clear and pleasing to the person on the other side of the screen. No special audio knowledge needed. So I would give this mic. to people who fit this description as well as someone who might want better audio without a microphone in their face. Wired Lavalier Mic (from my previous testing clip) picks up the sound machine noise, but can be removed using a Noise Removal feature. DEITY Microphones recently released a new affordable lavalier microphone - the V.Lav. The unique thing about this microphone is that you generally won’t need adapters to work with different devices like mobile phones, cameras, audio recorders, or Mac/PC. Instead, it intelligently figures out what it is connected to and configures itself to work with that device. Let’s take a closer look and listen! #Microphone #Lavalier #Deity If you’d like to learn how to make great dialogue audio for your film and video projects, please have a look at my courses at 🤍 including processing dialogue audio in Adobe Audition and DaVinci Resolve/Fairlight, recording sound, how to use the Zoom F8 and F8n, and how to get the most from the Sound Devices MixPre series of recorders. In this video I review the Boya M1 wired Lav Mic, an outstanding microphone for Youtube videos, and at $20 probably the cheapest high quality Youtubing mic on the market. So today, we're going to talk about audio. How can we make our video sound better? Whether you're using a DSLR camera, a smartphone device, or even a tablet. So let's jump in and I'll show you how to do this. All right, so now, the lavalier, which is one of my favorite mics for blogs and interview setups since the recording pattern is omnidirectional. There are two ways we could go with the lavalier. One would be going with a wired version, so you'd have your lavalier mic hardwired to your camera or smart device. Another option that we can do is we could go wireless. I personally like the RØDE Filmmaker Kit for a great way to be able to make this wireless, so now you can be able to walk and talk and you're not cabled to the camera. The other great advantage to a lavalier mic is if we had a noisy background… This allows, for very minimal surroundings to be picked up. So it's really close quarters. You will here a little bit in the background, but it's not going to be as much as if you had, say, like your shotgun mic on top of your camera. Whatever it's pointing at, it's going to pick up that audio. As you can hear, I'm sounding nice, crystal, and clear. I can look to my left, I can look to my right, I can move around, and I'm still going to get the same audio. For smartphone and tablets, you'll need to use the RØDE SC4TRS to TRRS adaptor because the RØDE Kit, uses the TRS connection, and the smart devices, uses the TRRS connection. If you any questions, or would like to know more, or need advice or tips, feel free to email me at joelw🤍dvestore.com. Thank you and stay tuned for our next episode.
