Nel complesso quella terra potrebbe produrre cibo sufficiente a sfamare più di un miliardo di persone ogni anno.

In 1997, 70-year-old Lucy Wachira, proprietor of Eveready Security Guards Ltd., purchased a property in Nairobi's South B Estate and registered it under her company to serve as its headquarters. For the next 26 years, Lucy steadily grew her company, to where it currently provides employment to more than 800 employees. Then, one fateful day in September 2022, the livelihoods of her employees and their families were cast into jeopardy in a dramatic, and quite bizarre, twist of events. The 5th day of September is a memorable day for many Kenyans, as it was the day when the Supreme Court of Kenya delivered its verdict on the presidential election petitions, contesting the election of President William Ruto in the 2022 General Election. For Lucy, however, the day bears haunting memories of perhaps one of the most devastating and shocking events in her life. On that fateful day, Lucy and her son, Edwin, who is also a director of their security company, were confronted in their business premises by a contingent of police officers accompanied by, what Edwin describes as, about “50 goons”. The police officers announced they had come to enforce a court order authorizing the immediate eviction of her company from the premises. Unable to comprehend what was happening, Lucy protested to the officers that they must have been mistaken since the property had been under the ownership of her company ever since she had purchased it back in 1997. Her pleas, however, fell on deaf ears as the “goons” proceeded to evict her from her property, vandalizing some of her company’s assets and records in the process. On further inquiry, Lucy learned that a company going by the name of Esteem Energy Limited had somehow acquired a court order signed by Principal Magistrate Edgar Kagoni, granting it the authority to evict her company from the property. Esteem Energy is allegedly owned by one Hassan Ibrahim Isaak. His company had sued Lucy’s company, Eveready Security Guards Ltd., at the Milimani Commercial Courts under Civil Case No. 3624 of 2022, without the knowledge of either Lucy or her company. Lucy is now having to fight a land grabber in court to regain the property she has owned for the past 26 years. #JusticeForLucy
