How India's Economy Is Growing At A Faster Pace Than China

China's economy might get more attention, but India's is outpacing its neighbor in economic growth. In fact, India came in as the world's fastest growing large economy during 2018, according to the IMF. India's prime minister faces criticism for a lack of job creation and the workforce remains largely in the informal sector. This year, India is in the midst of an important election. Beyond recent tensions with Pakistan, the economy is a key campaign issue. Indian voters are deciding on their next prime minister and one key issue that could sway voters is how much Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done with the country's economy. India's economy is the fastest growing large economy in the world. The United Nations expects India's current population of 1.3 billion to keep growing and surpass China by 2024. However, the country is facing a few obstacles. A few years ago, Prime Minister Modi, promised to add 10 million jobs to help boost the economy. That hasn't really happened. The unemployment rate now sits at a 45-year high. And GDP per capita, which is a measure of wealth across a country, lags behind rivals like China by a wide margin. Can India keep growing at such a fast pace? And if it does, at what cost? » Subscribe to CNBC: 🤍 » Subscribe to CNBC TV: 🤍 » Subscribe to CNBC Classic: 🤍 About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. India's Economy: Economic Superpower?

The Economy of India is the 5th largest in the world and is expected to be the third largest by 2030, according to the IMF. As the largest democracy on earth, India’s future is bright. Yet its economic story has had its challenges. In 1980, its GDP per capita was higher than China’s, but today it's five times higher. Likewise neighbouring Bangladesh reportedly overtook India on a GDP per capita basis in 2020. So, what has happened and how can India achieve economic success? To understand modern India, we must first look to history and India has a very rich one. Literally! For over seven hundred years the sub-continent was estimated to have been the wealthiest place on earth. Accounting for over 25% of global trade up until the 18th century. Bulldozers, invented 100 years ago, have been used across the world to build homes, offices, roads and other infrastructures. BJP leaders have defended their actions, saying "nothing is done against the law" - but critics say they "are bulldozing over the very spirit of the law". Please subscribe HERE 🤍 #India #BBCNews
