Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band play Edgar Winter's 70's hit "Free Ride" live in concert at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco, California on June 11, 2023. Free Ride appeared on The Edgar Winter Group's debut album, They Only Come Out At Night (1972). The song reached Number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was featured prominently in the 1993 film, Dazed and Confused. Ringo Starr And His All Starr Band consists of Ringo Starr (vocals / drums), Steve Lukather (guitar / bass / vocals), Colin Hay (guitar / vocals), Edgar Winter (keyboards / saxophone / vocals), Warren Ham (saxophone / flute / keyboards), Hamish Stuart (guitar / bass / vocals), and Gregg Bissonette (drums). = Edgar Winter official bio: Edgar Holland Winter is an American rock and blues musician. He is known for being a multi-instrumentalist — keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist and percussionist — as well as a singer. Edgar's immediate impact on the record business with his first record, "Entrance", was followed up with two hit albums with his band White Trash, and he topped that success with The Edgar Winter Group, creating the number one hit "Frankenstein" as well as the ever-popular "Free Ride". The album "They Only Come Out At Night" peaked at number 3 on the Billboard charts and stayed on the chart for 80 weeks; on it's way to double platinum. Edgar invented the keyboard body strap, an innovation that allows him the freedom to move around the stage during his high-energy multi-instrument performances. His live appearances have occurred around the world, and Edgar is known for his own scintillating shows, as well as his riveting collaborations with the likes of Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band. Edgar's music can be heard in no fewer than fifteen film and television projects, including The Simpsons, Wayne's World, Air America, Wag The Dog, Encino Man and My Cousin Vinny, as well as advertising campaigns such as Miller Highlife, and most recently the "Tupac Resurrection" film, which includes his powerful song "Runnin' (Dying To Live)", which charted #5 on the R&B/Hip Hop Charts. Produced by Eminem, the song was part of a soundtrack album that was number one for eight weeks. His live TV appearances include David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel. August 2nd 2008. Free Ride is a song written by Dan Hartman and performed by the The Edgar Winter Group. The single, engineered by Jim Reeves, was a top 20 U.S. hit in 1973. The song is featured in the movies Air America, Dazed and Confused, Jack Frost, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, Days of Thunder and in the video games Prey and Cars. It is also used in the trailer for College Road Trip, as well as the trailer for the 2009 film The Damned United. It was covered by R&B group Tavares on their 1975 album In the City, and Christian rock band Audio Adrenaline (1995). Hartman himself covered the song later in his career. Hartman's cover as a solo artist appear in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. The song is sometimes mistakenly attributed to the Doobie Brothers, perhaps because of the similarity in its style to their works. The 45 version is a different recording than the LP version, but both versions clock in at 3:08.
