This bench is actually a spin off of the well known Leopold Bench which was named after the conservationist Aldo Leopold who built them for birdwatching and nature photography. I liked the simplicity of the Leopold Bench but wanted to modify the design a little by varying the angles to make it a little more comfortable and have a proper seat and back. In this video, I will make a simple DIY Bench with a Rustic yet Modern twist using wood and metal. If you don't have machines necessary for squaring up lumber such as a jointer or planer then you can order wood pre squared up... it's called "surfaced lumber." S4S is the term which means surfaced on four sides. Today's woodworking project is all about building a stylish, super sturdy, and cost effective garden bench. I was challenged by Jeff, The Weekend DIYer, to add to our home decor and build a garden bench. So I turned to my wife, Amy from the White Lab House, to come up with a design. What she found was an excellent chance for me to build something that looks good, yet doesn't cost much to make. In fact, it was only about $10 in materials at the local home center! I also thought it would be fun to loop in one of daughters to be a shop buddy for the day. Simple projects are excellent for involving your kids for some quality bonding time! Ever wanted a bench for your backyard or patio that's easy to build? I'll show you how to make and assemble this bench only using 2 power tools! Plans can be found here! (🤍 Keep in mind this may vary based on the exact height and width of your 2x4s, but once you decide the length and width of your main seat, the rest fits inside of that. Here are the tools I used: -Ryobi 13-Amp 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw 🤍 -Ryobi 5.5-Amp 3/8" Drill 🤍 -Kreg 8.25 in. Mini Jig Pocket Hole Kit 🤍 -Other hand tools like the clamps and speed square are around $10 or less. The Pocket Hole Kit is not needed for this project if you don't have one, you can still screw the legs into place at an angle. Items you will need: ★ One 2x4 (8 ft long) cut 4 pieces into 15.5 inches and another 4 pieces into 8 inches. Build a simple workbench for around $60 in less than an hour! This is a great addition to your garage or workshop and can me made with simple tools. Makes working on car parts and DIY projects much easier! The lengths you'll need are: 1 X Bench top (1200mm X 600mm) 2 X 1200mm (Bench frame) 2 X 540mm (Bench Frame Ends) 4 X 980mm (Legs) Choose your own lengths based on desired height 2 X 600mm (Leg Supports) There are loads of really great workbench designs out there but this is a nice simple design for doing DIY projects. You can adjust any of the sizes and lengths to create a custom bench for your own workspace. You can also simply replace the bench top when it gets worn out and if you're budget allows you can use a nice piece of hardwood. Keep in mind that wood may not be perfectly straight so choose carefully at the shop. Glue also helps to make the whole thing stronger. I'm using this bench as part of a larger bench and mounting it to a wall and supports but if you're using screws only on the legs install them diagonally. We were sent an email from a young MCM fan asking how to make a cheap, simple workbench. This bench is a perfect two seater that Is built using only a few basic tools. I chose to use redwood and seal it with a weather proofing sealer. For less than $100 I really loved how it turned out.
